their embarrassing history together. Meanwhile, the romantic attraction between handyman
Nasim and maid Jadwiga begins to heat up every nook and cranny of the Lamont Hotel.

Mavis stokes Courtney's fears when his political boss
(guest star Scott Bryce)
is so charmed by Rita's outspoken naivete that he asks her to accompany him to Florida to
connect with young voters and when Courtney is left behind in Harlem, Mavis suggests that
his girlfriend will indulge in swanky hanky-panky. Meanwhile, a nervous Nasim prepares for
his blind date with a Polish immigrant (guest star Caitlin O'Connell) who immediately clashes
with jealous fellow countrywoman Jadwiga.

Don't Hide Love |

Mavis agrees to host her gay cousin's (guest star Portia) wedding at the hotel,
particularly after finding out that her one hit, Don't Hide Love, has
become a gay anthem in the years since she recorded it. Complications arise when
Mavis's right-wing brother Courtney hosts a meeting of the Republican Inclusion
Coalition at the hotel on the same weekend. As Rita makes the preparations for
the couple, the outspoken Mavis steers a middle course and remains an equal
opportunity offender (A woman comes into her hotel, When Mavis ask her to which
event she wants to go: the gay wedding or the Republican meeting? the woman responds,
"the bush event." Mavis grimaces and asks "Could you be more especific?").
Appearing in the episode will be members of the
New York City Gay Men's Chorus.

Identity Crisis |

Mavis fusses and fumes when she learns that her identity has been
stolen meaning that her credit cards are revoked and her assets frozen
leaving her penniless and paranoid when she thinks that Rita and her friends might
be responsible. Aware that Mavis cannot meet her payroll or afford her "luxuries,"
Rita and her female posse secretly try to let Mavis win at poker just to ease her
money woes.

The Squatter |

When gunshots are heard (from a tennant's TV) which wake up some of the other guests,
Mavis goes to deal with the colorful old tenant causing the ruckus (Diana, played by
Celeste Holm). Diana
has been paying bargain basement rent-controlled prices for decades and Mavis has been
trying to get rid of her for nearly as long. As Mavis starts yelling at her, the smoke
alarm goes off because Diana is drying her garters in the oven. She has also been caught
parading around in the nude and other kooky stunts. When Mavis gets Diana placed in a
retirement home, Diana's stuck-up granddaughter (guest star Krysten Ritter) then moves
in and turns the room into a 24/7 rave party. After a guilt trip because the retirement
home has robbed Diana of her dignity, and realizing the granddaughter is an even bigger
problem, Mavis breaks Diana out of the retirement home and brings her back to the hotel.
Meanwhile, romantic tension continues to build between Nasim and Jadwiga.

Mavis is almost overmatched against a rude, half-pint kid (Danny, played by guest star
Thomas Sharkey) who is left to roam the hotel and torment her until she discovers
that his father (guest star
Scott Bryce) is a
guest and member of President Bush's re-election team who has offered Courtney a job on
the campaign team. While the opinionated Mavis confronts the Republican in her house,
the naughty boy learns some new protest songs in Farsi courtesy of Nasim

Mavis dons a blonde wig and presides over her female posse
during a wild bachelorette party at a trendy night club as they celebrate Soo Lin's
(semi-regular Mary
Ann Hu) wedding and meet a wide variety of exotic
patrons. As the bar bill adds up, the bride-to-be starts to have
second thoughts. In another corner, designated driver Nasim is mistaken as
Mavis' macho male escort and soon entertains offers of similar employment.

Whoopi Goldberg when he portrays Mavis' former choreographer from her days as a
one-hit singing wonder who drops by her hotel and inspires her to resume their
good times-loving relationship. However, her old friend has newfound religious
convictions that Mavis intends to undermine.

Is Rita Pregnant? |

When Rita thinks she's pregnant, an alarmed Courtney runs out to find a job selling clothing
in order to afford a ring, but his hurried proposal to his longtime lover falls short of Rita's
expectations. An upset Mavis doesn't fancy herself as a future babysitter and makes a startling
revelation. Elsewhere, Nasim and Jadwiga head to Connecticut hoping to cash in on the state's
multimillion-dollar Powerball contest until Nasim comes out swinging at a rough truck stop.

the pair is caught on a white-knuckle flight simulator and engage in some
brass-knuckle straight talk about their relationship.

Golden Girls") with medical authorization to use the "grass" as a painkiller. Meanwhile,
Nasim strains to study for his citizenship exam, prompting the opinionated Mavis and her
international poker klatsch to weigh in on the issue of immigration.

Michael Emerson) who always out-wits
his opponent. Aware that the plaintiff makes a living off false lawsuits, Courtney stages a mock trial
to prepare his loud-mothed sister for the real thing, but muzzling Mavis might prove impossible.

When hip-hop Rita joins Mavis' rowdy all-girl smoker-poker night, she shows a new
side of herself that offends conservative Courtney but the hip girlfriend won't hop to his
orders to abandon the game and walks out on him, leaving the lawyer crestfallen on the eve of a
big job interview. In order to reinvigorate her zombie-like brother before the interview, Mavis
recruits Nasim in a desperate bid to reconcile the mismatched lovebirds. |

Courtney when Bush graciously invites her for a face-to-face meeting. Later, while out of
place at a GOP function, a sassy Mavis drinks, smokes and speaks her mind and soon gets
up-close-and-personal with the Secret Service.

in so many ways when a buxom woman keeps asking him to work for trade as her own personal handyman.

handyman quits, fearing deportation back to Iran. Meanwhile, Mavis' unemployed brother Courtney
loses cash in an ATM and then loses his cool when he is put on phone hold for hours which only
makes Rita pout.

Mavis howls when Rita's pet ferret clamps onto her finger, but Mavis' ordeal just
begins whens she heads for the emergency room and is ignored for hours while her finger swells
and she gets too clever for her own good when she tries to sneak inside for treatment. However,
Courtney gets better service when he takes the furry ferret to the veterinarian's office, while
back at the abandoned hotel, Nasim jockeys with Jadwiga
(Gordana Rashovich) for control
of the check-in desk. Mavis finally gets some medical attention through Rita's intervention.

When the nation's security threat level is elevated to an orange alert,
Nasim's paranoia over an abandoned designer briefcase in the hotel lobby and fear of getting SARS
from a group of Toronto tourists, carries over to Mavis, who calls the police bomb squad to blow
up the attache. But when Mavis discovers that Courtney is missing his expensive new briefcase
which was a gift from girlfriend, Rita, she scrambles to find an inexpensive knockoff.

Former singing diva turned hotel owner Mavis Rae
(Whoopi Goldberg) makes
room for her brother Courtney (Wren
T. Brown) after his recent employer, Enron, suffers a small financial setback. However, her
new hotel guest is in love and Mavis soon has the pleasure of meeting Rita
(Elizabeth Regan),
Courtney's white girlfriend who talks and dresses like a "sister"
and is just too much fun for her to ignore. Meanwhile, the hotel's need for a fulltime
concierge prompts Mavis to promote her reliable handyman Nasim
(Omid Djalili) giving him a
shot at this new position. Mavis buys herself a new television set and gets ripped off by the slick salesman.
