What Whoopi thinks, New York Daily News
SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

NEW YORK - Knowing that Whoopi Goldberg is rarely at a loss for words, the Daily News asked her opinion on a few things.

Her daughter
"I really dig my kid," Alexandra Martin, who was in "Sister Act 2." She's "a really good person. She's raising some really well-mannered kids, and she's just a nice woman." Martin is "a funny woman...who makes me laugh a lot."

Being a grandmother
"I've been one for so long now, that it's pretty normal to me. The oldest one is turning 15 this year, and she and I are gonna get together for our birthdays [Goldberg turns 49 next month], and then next year, we're gonna have a great big party. That'll be groovy. I like them. They are very individual, and very witty, and very curious...I'm Granny and I'm odd [to them] because Granny's sitting there and on television too.".

She described her grandson's attitude this way: "I mean, there's somethin' big about Granny, but who cares. Where's my dirt bike?"

Her youngest grandchild, an 8-year-old girl, "is really a princess in disguise, and we talk about where her kingdom might be."

On Philadelphia
"I do like Philadelphia. I even like the 76ers. I like that it's close to Atlantic City." She likes to gamble.

Smoking
She still smokes, and will stop "when I get the urge to stop. I do so little else. I don't drink, I don't get stoned, I don't drink coffee...I gotta have one vice."

On the United States
"It needs to be better. I'm not happy with the state of our mind, and I think we've lost a lot of ground in the world. I love my brothers and sisters over there fighting, but I'm sick that they're having to do it - in my mind - for no good reason."

Her struggles with weight loss
"I've probably put a couple pounds back on. It comes, it goes. That's one thing I will say about Slim-Fast, it did work."
