The Story:
The screenplay is based upon Sebastian Junger's non-fiction book, The
Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men against the Sea, which spent 35 weeks on the
New York Times' Bestseller List. The film only covers a part of the book,
concentrating on the Andrea Gail. The "No Name" hurricane occurred October
28 through November 3, 1991 off the coast of New England. The six crewmen of a
72-foot steel-hulled swordfisherman, out of Gloucester, Massachusetts, were stuck
at sea during the dangerous storm with 100-foot waves. While they struggle to make
it back to shore safely, their families and friends on shore are left to worry and
try to save them.
