"It has been a long time between screen sightings of the actress her romp with Harrison Ford in
Raiders
was 15 years ago, and
Starman
came out in 1984.
Scrooged with Bill Murray, was in 1988.
"But the years have been kind to Allen, who's 44 years old and still could easily pass for Marion
Ravenwood from Raiders.
"As she shows her guests into the house, a converted 250 year-old barn, she beams with that same
fresh, girl-next-door look huge blue-green eyes and a big wide smile."

not a box-office hit like the others was The Glass Menagerie directed by Paul Newman."

". . . Raiders of the Lost Ark remains one of my all-time favorite action movies,
and the occasion of another magic moment. At the time it was released, I had
coincidentally just finished work on another film costarring Karen Allen, who
played Marian Ravenwood opposite Harrison Ford in his debut as Indiana Jones.
Allen and I had become movie-set pals, and like any proud father I thought
Jaime would get a kick out of meeting her. Especially when he agreed upon
seeing Raiders with me that here was about the coolest adventure flick ever
made.
"I called Allen in Manhattan and arranged a tea date at her townhouse. Jaime
and I strolled downtown at the appointed hour, rang the bell . . . and no one
answered. We walked down the street to a pay phone, called again . . . and no
one answered. It was getting late. Jaime was looking crestfallen. I began to
feel like a first-class chump. We made one last pass at the building; a taxi
screeched up, the door flew open and out jumped Karen Allen, with a sackful
of groceries.
"'You must be Jaime!' she cried, throwing her arms around my dazzled boy.
'I've heard so much about you!'
"It does not get any better than this, fellow parents. Allen gave Jaime
autographed copies of everything but Steven Spielberg's tax returns. If I ever
personally discover the Ark of the Covenant, I'm saving a piece for her."

". . . During the interview, Karen Allen drops by. She has been performing
in a tribute to Tennessee Williams at the Williamstown Theater Festival and has
come for a swim.
"'From the very beginning - doing the play (Seesaw) last summer, and
Monday After the Miracle - it has been one of the most wonderful experiences
of my life,' says Allen, explaining her friendship with both Gibsons. 'I can
say it very easily: Working with Arthur [Penn] and [William Gibson] and Margaret [Brenman-Gibson] - it's great. My
dream of a creative situation.'
"'It's not an average situation in this kind of work we do. Occasionally in
a period of years I meet someone - make friends. Bill has a dedication that's
extraordinary. It goes beyond what's normally experienced in a working
situation,' Allen says. 'I haven't come across that very much in my life.'"
