"[When we filmed Animal House, I] found John [Belushi] astonishingly shy and vulnerable. Rather than being a
confident established star, he seemed nervous about meeting everyone, about fitting in."

Fat, Drunk, and Stupid: The Inside Story Behind the Making of Animal House
April 10, 2012 - Bestselling author Matty Simmons was the founder of National Lampoon and the producer of Animal House.
In Fat, Drunk, and Stupid,
he draws from exclusive interviews with actors including Karen Allen,
Kevin Bacon, Peter Riegert, and Mark Metcalf, director John Landis, fellow producer Ivan Reitman, and other key players—as well as
behind-the-scenes photos—to tell the movie’s outrageous story, from its birth in the New York offices of the National Lampoon to
writing a script, assembling the perfect cast, the wild weeks of filming, and, ultimately, to the film’s release and megasuccess. This
is a hilarious romp through one of the biggest grossing, most memorable, most frequently quoted, and most celebrated comedies of all time.

Toga Party on Broadway! "Animal House" Being Made Into Stage Musical
05 Mar 2012 - National Lampoon's Animal House, the smash 1978 picture that starred John Belushi and Tom Hulce as members of an unruly fraternity house in the 1960s, is being developed as a stage musical to be directed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Elf, Spamalot).
Universal Pictures Stage Productions is working on the show, to feature a score by pop band Barenaked Ladies (known for their hits "If I Had a Million Dollars," "Jane") and a libretto by Michael Mitnick (Second Stage Theatre Uptown's Sex Lives of Our Parents). Expect the film's beer-soaked "toga party" to figure into the plot.
Hulce, who played a new pledge who loses his virginity in the John Landis-directed film, has since gone on to become a Broadway producer (Spring Awakening, American Idiot, On a Clear Day).
The commercial producers connected to the project are Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel (Porgy and Bess) and James L. Nederlander. Matty Simmons, founding publisher of National Lampoon Magazine, is executive producer of the project.
News of the development of the show was first reported in the
New York Times.
Animal House Avaliable on Blu-Ray
(order now)
May 16, 2011 - Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that the classic 1978 comedy
NATIONAL LAMPOON’S ANIMAL HOUSE, directed by John Landis starring John Belushi, Karen Allen, Kevin Bacon, Tim Matheson, John Vernon and Donald Sutherland, is available on Blu-ray. The film takes place at a college in 1962 where Dean Vernon Wormer is determined to expel the entire Delta Tau Chi fraternity but those guys have other plans for him.
It’s hard to believe that this film was made all the way back in 1978 and is still probably one of the most popular comedies of all time. Does this just confirm that college fraternities haven’t changed in over three decades? Just kidding frat guys, I’m sure you don’t still have toga parties, and plot practical jokes, right?

became the stuff of movie legend, providing the groundwork for movies like 'Porky's', 'American Pie' and 'Old School.' So where
are the Deltas and the Omegas now, and just what is Double Secret Probation? Find out
